Moldovan transport minister to stay in prison with harshest conditions another month
CHISINAU. May 27 (Interfax) - Moldovan Transport and Roads Infrastructure Minister Iurie Chirinciuc, who is charged with corruption, will stay under arrest for another 30 days.
A Chisinau court made such a decision on Friday, the press service for the National Anticorruption Center told Interfax. According to the court decision, the minister will stay in penitentiary Establishment N13, which is known for its harsh conditions.
Chirinciuc was arrested on April 27 by National Anticorruption Center officials. Veaceslav Teleman, the head of the Moldovan State Road Administration, and some other officials were also arrested. They are charged with corruption and abuse of office. Several charges have been filed against Chirinciuc, including receiving a bribe in an amount of 50,000 euros. The moment when the bribe was received was recorded on a video camera.
Prosecutors have suggested that Moldovan Prime Minister Pavel Filip suspend Chirinciuc from his work. The prime minister granted that request, but did not make any proposals to the president to dismiss Chirinciuc and appoint a different minister. Thus, he suspended the minister from his post for the period of the investigation and did not dismiss him.
