Syria sees 11 truce breaches in past 24 hours - Russian Defense Ministry

MOSCOW. May 29 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian inspectors have observed ten shooting incidents in Syria in the past 24 hours, while their Turkish colleagues have reported one, the Russian Defense Ministry's website said on Monday.

"Most cases of random small arms fire have been recorded in the areas held by fighters of the Jabhat al-Nusra and ISIL terrorist groups [banned in Russia]," the ministry said.

Russian members of the joint Russian-Turkish commission investigating breaches of the cessation of hostilities have seen ten shooting incidents in the governorates of Damascus (6), Daraa (2), Latakia (1) and al-Quneitra (1).

Turkish members of the commission have reported one ceasefire breach in the Daraa governorate, the ministry said.

"The situation in the de-escalation areas has been stable," it said.

Control groups are monitoring the ceasefire implementation under the Memorandum on the Creation of De-Escalation Areas in the Syrian Arab Republic signed by Russia, Iran and Turkey on May 4, 2017.
