Macron calls exchange of views with Putin open, frank
VERSAILLES. May 29 (Interfax) - French President Emmanuel Macron said that his first exchange of views with Russian President Vladimir Putin was open and frank.
"It was the first exchange of views, and, I believe, it turned out very open, frank. We have said many things to each other. I expressed my opinion on a number of situations," Macron said at a press conference following negotiations with Putin on Monday.
"I told him some things, and I won't tell you them, because it's a custom in diplomatic relations and politics. I believe, we've told each other everything," Macron said.
There are certainly things on which they are of different opinions, he said.
"But we voiced it, and the most important thing is that we have discussed how we should devise joint actions. We should act jointly, because if we won't create the necessary conditions, we won't be able to make progress on the aforementioned issues, if we don't have a frank, sincere dialogue," Macron said.
Disputes sometimes occur during a dialogue, but if they are avoided, it will be impossible to move forward on the Ukrainian and Syrian issues, he said.
Macron said he never believed that one needs to comment on "some issues related to thermodynamics or personal chemistry" in politics, replying to a reporter's question on possible warming of the climate between Russia and France.
"We've talked about the climate. It's indeed very hot in here, there's warming of the climate," he said.
