Conflict in Donbas becoming 'frozen' - Kuchma
KYIV. May 31 (Interfax) - The situation in Donbas is turning into a "frozen conflict," Ukrainian envoy to the Trilateral Contact Group on conflict settlement in this region and former Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma said.
"A new frozen conflict is emerging on the space of the former Soviet Union today. And Russia has not a slightest wish for it to disappear," Kuchma told reporters in Kyiv on Wednesday.
The situation is complicated by a large stretch of the border with Russia, he said.
"A working group is certainly needed to discuss this question, but there are no mechanisms of the way to pass [control] over this border. We cannot station our border guards there. This is why I am speaking about a peacekeeping force for the OSCE simply to be permitted to travel there," Kuchma also said.
