Almost 60 artillery shells launched at village of Lukove in Donbas - DPR Defense Ministry
LUKOVE (Donetsk region). June 2 (Interfax) - The self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) has reported an artillery attack on the populated area of Lukove in the southern part of the republic 24 hours following the declaration of a ceasefire.
"It was said that the ceasefire would last 24 hours. And it did [...] They [the Ukrainian military] de facto waited that time and the populated area of Lukove came under fire this morning from 122 mm caliber artillery," Eduard Basurin, a senior official with the DPR Defense Ministry, told reporters on Friday.
Fifty-seven shells were registered in the area of the village, fire was opened from the populated area of Chermalyk controlled by the Ukrainian troops and was adjusted using a drone, he said.
Basurin said the territory of the republic had come under fire from Ukrainian troops 34 times.
"The Ukrainian troops breached the ceasefire 34 times in the past 24 hours. A total of 17 populated areas of the republic came under fire from Ukrainian troops using tanks, artillery, grenade launchers and firearms," Basurin said.
The attacks on Lukove caused nine pieces of agricultural equipment to catch fire, destroyed a gas station and damaged power lines and two residential buildings, he said.
Kyiv earlier reported 28 attacks on Ukrainian positions in the past 24 hours.
