Sberbank registers 5,500 social engineering crimes per week
ST. PETERSBURG. June 3 (Interfax) - Sberbank of Russia records some 5,500 instances of social engineering fraud per week, and thinks there is a tendency for this sort of crime to increase, the bank's deputy head, Stanislav Kuznetsov, told reporters on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
"Unfortunately the tendency is for this to rise. It's now probably a problem for state institutions," Kuznetsov said.
But he said artificial intelligence had already learned to hedge these risks and protect Sberbank's clients.
Sberbank has on several occasions helped to detain persons who have stolen funds from clients with social engineering scams, getting clients to disclose confidential information with cold calls and text messages.
