Anti-Russian NGOs in U.S., Europe architects, lobbyists of tough pressure on Russia - foreign intelligence chief
MOSCOW. June 7 (Interfax) - Anti-Russian nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) in the United States and Europe are pursuing their own line of deterring Russia in close coordination with one another, Sergei Naryshkin, head of Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), said.
"The anti-Russia-minded nongovernmental organizations in the U.S. and Europe are not so much a tool in the hands of states anymore as they are architects and lobbyists of tough pressure on Moscow. Acting as the main conduit of globalization, they are capable of pursuing their own line without looking to national governments, including the White House," Naryshkin said during parliamentary hearings in the Federation Council on Wednesday.
Their aim is "to deter and subjugate Russia, and their actions are being closely coordinated," Naryshkin said.
"This work is all-encompassing and global, both geographically and from the viewpoint of the topics covered: policies, domestic and foreign, the economy, right up to the humanitarian sphere," the head of foreign intelligence said.
