Gazprom to build another two exploratory wells at Kirinskoye field in 2017

YUZHO-SAKHALINSK. June 8 (Interfax) - Gazprom is planning to continue developing the Kirinskoye field, located on the Sakhalin shelf, building another two exploratory wells, materials from the gas giant said.

The project had envisaged the construction of seven exploratory wells with a production level of 5.5 billion cubic meters (bcm) of gas per year, five of which have already been built and two operational.

Gazprom will carry out drilling themselves using semi-submersible floating drilling rigs Polar Star and Northern Light.

Two exploratory wells were built and tested at the field in 2016; another two were drilled up to the reservoir horizon, the materials said.

"We are currently carrying out geological surveying work in Kamchatka and follow-up exploration at the Kshukskoye and Nizhne-Kvakchikskoye fields. The plans include the construction of a booster compression station," Gazprom deputy CEO Vitaly Markelov said at a press conference on Thursday.

He also said that "the matter of building a LNG import terminal has not yet been looked at."

Gazprom is carrying out geological prospecting work at three licensed blocks as part of the Sakhalin-3 project: Kirinsky, Ayashsky and Vostochno-Odoptinsky. The Kirinskoye, Yuzhno-Kirinskoye and Mynginskoye fields have been opened at the Kirinsky block.
