Lavrov, de Mistura call for stepping up dynamism of Geneva talks on Syria
MOSCOW. June 8 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura believe it is important to consolidate the positive results reached on Syria in Geneva, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
"Sergei Lavrov and Staffan de Mistura emphasized the importance of consolidating the positive results reached during intra-Syrian consultations under the UN aegis in Geneva, including with regard to constitutional aspects. In this context, they focused on the goal of preserving and stepping up the dynamism of the negotiations, ensuring their truly inclusive nature, and attaching special significance to aspects of the fight against terrorism," the ministry said in commenting on negotiations between Lavrov and de Mistura.
"The special envoy highly praised Russia's activities toward enforcing the cessation of hostilities in Syria, including in terms of the implementation of the Memorandum on the Creation of De-Escalation Areas in the Syrian Arab Republic signed on May 4 this year. He welcomed the fact that the negotiations in Geneva and the Astana process mutually complement each other," it said.
