FSB-CSTO interaction helped minimize impact of global cyber attack mounted in May - Patrushev
MINSK. June 15 (Interfax) - Recommendations given by the Federal Security Service (FSB) computer incident coordination center to command posts of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) advisory coordination center helped minimize the impact of the global cyber attack mounted in May, Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev said on Thursday.
"Information regarding computer attacks which involved the information resources of our countries was sent repeatedly. For example, the massive spread of malware was prevented on May 12-13 and the critical information infrastructure of our countries was spared serious damage," Patrushev said at a meeting of security council secretaries of the CSTO member countries in Minsk on Thursday.
"The FSB national computer incident coordination center gave recommendations to command posts of the CSTO advisory coordination center as to how to deter this threat. Coordinated efforts helped minimize the impact of this computer attack," he said.
Malware penetration of information systems of several financial institutions was traced and averted together with Armenia, Patrushev said.
Law enforcement agencies and security services of the CSTO member countries "have been actively interacting in the suppression of computer crimes for a rather long period of time," he said.
