Mutko jokes about supplying 2008 World Cup national teams with "marijuana for the Dutch"

ST. PETERSBURG. June 18 (Interfax) - Russian Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Mutko joked about preparations for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia by suggesting "bringing in marijuana" for the Dutch team.

"We will be recommending the Ulyanovsk region, among others [for accommodating the national football teams during the 2018 World Cup]. And you start [preparations]. If the Dutch come here, bring a bit of marijuana and something else. Find some way to attract them. I am joking, of course. But overall, you understand: the teams will figure it out for themselves," Mutko said during a Russian Football Union conference in St. Petersburg on Sunday.

The RFU chief was responding to a question from a conference participant, who said that the Ulyanovsk region, like other Russian regions, is getting ready to take in the participating teams of the 2018 world cup.

The Netherlands applies a policy of tolerance towards the use of light drugs - cannabis derivatives (marijuana, hashish), and drug use is regarded as a health issue, not a crime.
