EU ready to step up assistance to Karabakh peace process - head of EU delegation to Armenia

YEREVAN. June 20 (Interfax) - The European Union is concerned about escalating tensions in the Karabakh conflict zone, head of the EU Delegation to Armenia Piotr Switalski told reporters on Tuesday.

The EU is concerned about the increased number of truce breaches in the conflict zone, which had led to human casualties, Switalski said. EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Herbert Salber will visit Armenia in early July, and this visit is proof of EU interest in the peaceful process, Switalski said.

The EU has been fully cooperative with the OSCE Minsk Group in the Karabakh settlement process, he said.

The EU is ready to provide additional assistance for the settlement process, Switalski said, urging joint work for the sake of peace.
