Indian defense minister highly assesses prospects for localization of Russian-Indian joint manufacturing projects in India

NOVOSIBIRSK. June 21 (Interfax) - Russia and India have identified several new areas for scientific and technological cooperation, India's Finance Minister and Minister of Defense Arun Jaitley told reporters.

The main purpose of today's meeting of the Indian-Russian high-level commission on science and technology was to determine new partnership areas for prospective joint work of the two countries in the scientific and technological sphere, Jaitley said following the aforesaid meeting held as part of the Tekhnoprom 2017 international forum on Wednesday.

The sides have identified several new areas for their future cooperation and scientists will continue working and expand cooperation between Russia and India in the areas listed by Russian Deputy Premier Dmitry Rogozin, he said.

Several joint programs are underway already in the area of military equipment, he said.

Rogozin told the meeting participants about the Make in Russia program, and India has launched a similar Make in India initiative, specifically in the area of military equipment, he said.

Jaitley believes that there are good prospects for Russia-India cooperation in terms of localizing and producing equipment, particularly in India. The meeting showed us the way toward the future roadmap of our joint efforts, Jaitlety said.
