Transdniestrian leader proposes asking OSCE chairperson-in-office to resume '5+2' talks
MOSCOW. June 22 (Interfax) - President of the Moldovan Transdniestrian Republic Vadim Krasnoselski has suggested asking Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Chairperson-in-Office Sebastian Kurz to convene the next round of the '5+2' format talks.
"Since the beginning of the year, we have noticed our partners' unwillingness to communicate in the '5+2' format. We wrote lots of letters to both the mediators and the format participants in January, February and March. Besides, we wrote to the foreign ministers of all European Union countries calling on them to influence the situation," Krasnoselski said in an interview published in Russia's Izvestia newspaper on Thursday.
"Today, certain forces want to push Transdniestria and Russia out of the negotiating process" and also strip Transdniestria of its say within the '5+2' format, he said.
"I do not see that anyone, except for Russia and Transdniestria, would be willing to convene '5+2' [meeting]. All of the participants favor this in word, but are opposed to it in actual fact. So, let's ask Kurz jointly! [...] I assure you that if he received a request from the presidents of the two opposing sides, he would begin taking steps to organize this meeting," Krasnoselski said.
