RusHydro to bid in next tenders for small hydro plants
YAKUTSK. June 22 (Interfax) - RusHydro will continue to bid in new tenders for renewable energy in the area of small-scale hydropower, the Russian power company's director of prospective development, Alexei Kaplun told reporters on Thursday.
"In future, we will be primarily interested in tenders for small hydro generation, not only this year, but also in the subsequent year. We are now separately developing separate areas within the context of our general program - this is a program for development of small hydropower plants. The objective is, among other things, to participate in current and future tenders for capacity supply agreements in terms of the European part [of Russia]," Kaplun said.
The company is also separately considering wind power, but "right now there's nothing to talk about globally," he said. "We have plenty of challenges related to wind and sun in the Far East as well," Kaplun said.
Capacity supply agreements (CSA) enable investors to put money into a project with a guarantee of recovering it with a fixed return on investment through higher payments for capacity by consumers. Russia annually selects projects in renewable energy that can be built under such agreements. As a result of a selection in 2017, RusHydro will build two small HPP under CSA. The company is also building power plants using renewable energy without CSA, including in Russia's Far East.
