UTair boosts passenger traffic 25.7% in May, 22.4% in 5M
KHANTY-MANSIYSK. June 22 (Interfax) - UTair increased passenger traffic 25.7% year-on-year to 562,000 passengers in May, the airline said in a statement.
Traffic on domestic routes increased 22.2% and on international - 46.6%.
Passenger turnover increased 26.4% in May, while the average passenger seat occupancy rate was up 3.28 percentage points to 71.2%.
"UTair is continuing to demonstrate positive results. The 25.7% growth in the numbers of passengers carried was due to entering a whole range of new areas, among other reasons," UTair President Alexei Budnik was cited as saying in a statement.
In addition, UTair remained the most punctual airline in Russia in May. Statistical data shows that 99.28% of 6,570 regular UTair flights departed as scheduled; one of the best results in the industry.
The company carried 2.595 million passengers in January-May 2017, up 22.4% year-on-year. Domestic routes were up 18% and international - 50%. Passenger turnover increased 21.7% to 4.116 million passenger kilometers and the seat occupancy rate grew 5.16 percentage points to 70.2%.
UTair carried 6.65 million passengers in 2016, increasing on its 2015 results by 20.1%. Company CEO Andrei Martirosov told journalists that UTair is planning to boost passenger traffic 15%-20% in 2017.
UTair is one of Russia's biggest airlines and is part of the UTair Group. Its main hubs includes Moscow's Vnukovo International Airport, Tyumen's Roshino airport, and airports in Surgut and Khanty-Mansiysk. The Surgutneftegas nongovernmental pension fund owns a 50.004% stake in the core enterprise, UTair, via LLC AK Invest, the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous District owns 38.83% and Tyumen region owns 8.44%.
