Sheremetyevo 3rd runway lacking 7.5 bln rubles in funds in 2018; potential financing sources being discussed

SHEREMETYEVO. June 26 (Interfax) - Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport lacks 7.5 billion rubles in funds to build the airport's third runway in 2018, Russian Transport Minister Maxim Sokolov told journalists after a meeting on developing airport infrastructure in the run up to the 2018 World Cup.

"Around 7.5 billion rubles is the deficit in 2018, not 2017. Therefore we have time [to find sources to cover it]. Moreover, a commission to adjust the budget has begun working," he said, adding that one option being considered is to receive the funds from State Air Traffic Management Corporation, a federal state unitary enterprise.

"But there is one goal: to have the runway built and launched by the start of the World Cup in 2018. Therefore, the deficit will be covered," minister said.

At the end of 2016, Sheremetyevo ran into a serious shortfall of funds for reconstruction of existing and construction of new state-owned facilities, The third runway alone was short a total of 5 billion-13 billion rubles. Last week, the newspaper Kommersant reported that the government plans to raise financing for construction of the runway from State Air Traffic Management Corporation.
