Tbilisi denies reports of U.S. buying weapons from Georgia for use in Syria
TBILISI. June 26 (Interfax) - The report by Rustavi-2, a Georgian television company, that the United States contacted Tbilisi on the subject of buying weapons for use in Syria, is untrue, Georgian parliamentary majority leader Archil Talakvadze said.
"This information is untrue and part of the propaganda unfriendly towards Georgia," Talakvadze told journalists on Monday, while stressing that no such agreement with the U.S. exists "in nature."
"It is regretful when a television company, which sees itself as being pro-Western, is in engaged in circulating this kind of unfounded propaganda aimed against the Georgian-U.S. relationship," Talakvadze said.
Rustavi-2 reported a day earlier that the U.S. had contacted Georgia on the subject of buying weapons for use in Syria, and that a relevant contract for this purpose was signed through an intermediary company in September 2016.
