Rain puts out fires across more than 200,000 hectares of taiga in Irkutsk region
IRKUTSK. June 27 (Interfax) - The wildfires burning in the Irkutsk region shrank by more than 208,000 hectares during the day, the regional government said in a report on Tuesday.
Eleven fires were extinguished across 1,276.5 hectares, including three in the Irkutsk region, two in each of the Usolsky and Shelekhovsky districts, and one in each of the Nizhneilimsky, Chunsky, Taishet and Bratsk districts, the report said.
Twelve fires raging in the space monitoring area reduced 6.3 times to 32, 763 hectares thanks to rains.
Fifty forest fires are still burning across 54,695 hectares.
It was reported earlier that 45 forest fires were seen across 142,960 hectares in the region on Monday morning, including 12 fires across 130,937 hectares in the space monitoring zone.
Dry thunderstorms are the cause of most fires seen in the Irkutsk region, including nature conservancy and remote zones, this June.
A wildfire emergency was declared in forests of the Irkutsk region on June 22.
