Georgian president won't ask Poroshenko to extradite Saakashvili - spokesperson
TBILISI. June 27 (Interfax) - Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili does not intend to bring up the extradition of former Georgian head of state Mikheil Saakashvili during Ukrainian leader Petro Poroshenko's upcoming visit to Tbilisi in July.
"The Ukrainian president's visit to Georgia will be very important for both countries. The issue of Mikheil Sakashvili's extradition is not on the agenda of negotiations between two presidents and the Georgian president is not planning to bring it up," Georgian presidential spokesperson Eka Mishveladze told reporters on Tuesday.
Ukrainian Deputy Prosecutor General Yevhen Yenin, who is paying a visit to Georgia, told reporters earlier that Saakashvili's extradition is currently impossible, as he is a Ukrainian citizen.
Several criminal in cases on charges of embezzlement of public funds and abuse of office during his presidency have been opened against Saakashvili in Georgia.
