Criminal probe launched in Ukraine into 'interference with operation of computers and computer networks' after power cyber attack

KYIV. June 27 (Interfax) - A criminal case has been opened on suspicion of 'unauthorized interference with the operation of electronic computation systems (computers) and computer networks' following a powerful cyber attack in Ukraine, National Police spokesperson Yaroslav Trakalo said.

"A criminal probe has been launched now under Article 361 of the Ukrainian Criminal Code (unauthorized interference with the operation of electronic computation systems (computers) and computer networks)," Trakalo told reporters late on Tuesday.

A number of governmental agencies, banking systems and mass media were subjected to the hacker attack, he said.

"Experts are currently making efforts to stop the virus from spreading and to mitigate its consequences," Trakalo added.

Ukraine's National Police Cyber Police Department revealed that its call center had received approximately 200 reports of multiple computer systems being infected, as of 6.30 p.m.

"As of 6.30 p.m., the Cyber Police Department's call center received about 200 reports of computing systems belonging to government and private organizations and computer networks of individual users being infected. Such reports continue to come," the Department said on its Facebook page.
