Isolated ransomware virus attacks continue to be registered on Wednesday - Central Bank
MOSCOW. June 28 (Interfax) - Although financial market participants have largely mitigated the effects of the ransomware virus that began spreading on Tuesday, instances of new infections continue to be registered, although they are being resolved quickly, the Central Bank said in a commentary.
When the virus began affecting Russia and Ukrainian organizations on Tuesday, the Central Bank's FinCERT monitoring service alerted information exchange participants to the threat and how to counter it.
The virus was spread via email attachments, exploiting the CVE-2017-0199 vulnerability in Microsoft Office and WordPad applications.
"At present, FinCERT is conducting additional analysis of the attack. Upon its conclusion, participants in the information exchange will be sent updated recommendations and bulletins," the Central Bank said.
