Medvedev tells Vietnamese president EAEU free trade agreement will bring economic benefits
MOSCOW. June 29 (Interfax) - Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev welcomed Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang to Moscow, saying his visit was highly anticipated and expressing the hope the free trade agreement between Vietnam and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) would bring economic benefits.
"Of course our relations are durable in nature, are based on traditions of friendship, mutual understanding and cooperation that were laid down over the course of decades," Medvedev said.
Relations between the two countries are now entering a new phase of economic cooperation, he said, referring to the free trade agreement between Vietnam and the EAEU.
"We hope that this will bring economic benefits to our countries, meaning, our peoples," Medvedev said.
Vietnam is the first country with which the EAEU has signed such an agreement, he said.
"This is our first visit to Russia as president of friendly Vietnam and we, of course, attach great significance to it from the standpoint of strengthening future bilateral cooperation between our countries," Tran Dai Quang said, adding that he and Medvedev would discuss specific measures to intensify bilateral cooperation.
"I am especially happy to meet once more with Dmitry Anatolyevich [Medvedev] in the framework of this visit, in order to discuss concrete measures to intensify all-embracing strategic partnership and comprehensive cooperation of our countries. In order to raise our ties to the best heights, to deepen and expand ties for the good of our peoples, in the name of peace and stability in the world and the region," Tran Dai Quang said.
"We hope that aside from stepping up ties on the basis of all-encompassing strategic partnership, we strengthen and expand relations in other area and via various channels," he said.
