Israeli speaker shares concerns about Hezbollah's presence near northern border at Moscow meetings
MOSCOW. June 29 (Interfax) - Israeli Knesset Speaker Yuli-Yoel Edelstein discussed the situation on Israel's northern border with Russian leaders during his ongoing visit to Moscow.
"There have been meetings with everyone with whom they should have been held - with [Russian Federation Council Chairperson Valentina] Matviyenko, with [State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav] Volodin, with [Foreign Minister Sergei] Lavrov - all that such a visit envisions. We discussed very different matters [...] and there were issues on which there is less agreement. We talked quite openly on what is happening on our northern border in Israel [with Libya and Syria]," Edelstein said at a meeting with members of Jewish communities in Russia.
"Of course it's not a secret to anyone that we are very much concerned that our neighbors, to whom we have gotten accustomed - perhaps we didn't love them very much and didn't really have a lot of happiness from them, but have gotten accustomed to them - are being changed for even less pleasant neighbors, such as Hezbollah, such as Iranian presence. Conventional weapons are being changed for more serious weapons," he said.
"Therefore, naturally, we have to talk about this and coordinate positions at meetings with the Russian leadership. I do hope that at least the things I've said and the things other colleagues of mine have said have been heard," Edelstein said.
