Peskov does not think detention of Russia's Ageyev in Donbas bears any relation to Putin-Trump meeting

MOSCOW. June 30 (Interfax) - The Kremlin does not think that the detention of Russian citizen Viktor Ageyev in eastern Ukraine bears any relation to the upcoming meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. counterpart Donald Trump.

"I do not think that this issue has any relation to the meeting with Trump," Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Friday.

As to whether the detention of the Russian citizen was a proof of the Russian presence in eastern Ukraine, Peskov said, "I invite all of you to listen to the statements by the Defense Ministry and refer any questions of the sort there."

Speaking of a possible exchange of the detained Russian, the press secretary said, "As a rule, lawful and legal rights of our citizens are protected in foreign countries via diplomatic channels, while the Kremlin does not do that in its daily routine."

"Hence, on the other hand, there should be no doubt that everything prescribed by the law, I mean measures protecting interests, will be carried out," Peskov said.
