Practically all issues solved at Russian-Belarusian Supreme State Council meeting - Lukashenko

MINSK. July 1 (Interfax) - Practically all pressing issues concerning the Belarusian-Russian cooperation were resolved at the two countries' Union State's Supreme State Council meeting last Friday, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said on Saturday.

The Council "analyzed and considered to the smallest detail the most important of issues regarding the current work and further strengthening of the relations between our nations," Lukashenko said at a ceremonial gathering on the occasion of the Belarusian Independence Day.

"Yes, we and our brotherly Russia do not always have everything running smoothly [between us]. But, tell me, who does?" Lukashenko said.

"And yesterday, already after all the events were held, I said to the Russian leadership that this was the first such event in history where we really were brothers, where we resolved practically all issues that had been and remained on the agenda," Lukashenko said.

"After these incredible sanctions and pressure from all sides, we finally realized that we should only count on ourselves. Only our joint efforts, and nothing else, will bring happiness to our nations," Lukashenko said.

Having reliable partners and allies makes the real independence stronger and steadier, the Belarusian leader said.

"No one in this world, especially we, can survive on one's own. This is exactly why Belarus is a supporter of inter-state integration processes. Because we understand: acquiring reliable partners and allies is making our real independence stronger and steadier," Lukashenko said.
