Putin-Trump meeting to be held amid campaign for discrediting new administration in U.S

MOSCOW. July 6 (Interfax) - Russian experts note a major split in the American society and the equivocal attitude to U.S. President Donald Trump in the American political elite on the eve of the first meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Trump due in Hamburg on Friday.

"From his first steps as the U.S. president regarding the fulfillment of his election campaign pledges [...] his rivals with assistance from the media controlled by the Democrats have launched an unprecedented campaign for discrediting the activity of the new administration, including Donald Trump and his closest entourage," analytical materials to the upcoming meeting indicated.

"The situation is complicated by the fact that the attitude to Trump remains ambiguous in the Republican leadership," the materials said.

Trump's opponents have actively employed and are employing the anti-Russian factor, the documents indicated. Following the election the Democrats, seeking to dishonor the newly elected president, "have aggressively spread libelous, unfounded accusations in the public space that Russia has allegedly meddled with the American election via cyber attacks and has facilitated Trump's victory," the materials noted.

American media continue to spread insinuations about ties between Trump's campaign and the Kremlin, these materials indicated.

Hearings on this issue continue in Congress, at the same time, the U.S. Department of Justice has set up the position of special advisor. "Trump's rivals do not conceal that their efforts are aimed at drafting a legal basis for putting up the issue of starting the impeachment procedure in relation to the head of state," the materials said.
