BRICS member countries oppose protectionism in trade

HAMBURG. July 7 (Interfax) - Member countries of the BRICS group (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) have declared the inadmissibility of protectionism in international trade and urged the international community to comply with the Paris Climate Agreement.

A communique adopted by the BRICS chiefs of state at an informal meeting on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Hamburg expressed strong support to a multilateral system of trade based on clear rules, which should be transparent, non-discriminative, open and inclusive, as well as compliance with WTO rules and obligations, and said that protectionism was unacceptable.

The BRICS chief of state urged participants in the WTO ministerial conference to take place in Argentina this year to achieve positive results for improving the multilateral trade system.

The BRICS chiefs of state, among them Russian President Vladimir Putin, welcomed the input of the BRICS New Development Bank and Pool of Conventional Currency Reserves in the provision of global financial stability and sustainable development.

They called on the international community to ensure the joint compliance with the Paris Climate Agreement consistent with the principles of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), including such principles as equality, common but differentiated responsibilities, and capacities depending on the national state of affairs.

In addition, the BRICS chiefs of state asked the international community to provide financial and technical support to developing countries coping with climate change problems.
