Black Sea Fleet ships deploy to sea on alert as part of combat-readiness checks

MOSCOW. July 12 (Interfax) - The Southern Military District command has started testing the level of combat readiness of the Black Sea Fleet forces, several coastal and ship groups have been put on mock alert, a spokesperson for the Southern Military District told Interfax on Wednesday.

"After receiving the 'alarm' signal, the missile, anti-submarine and mine-sweeping ships went out into the sea," the spokesperson said.

Also put on alert were the Fleet's coastal defense groups, the command checked their actions at regular deployment sites, while the ship crews have now moved to the combat-training sites, the spokesperson said.

"The inspection of the Fleet's combat-readiness will last for several days and take place at the Black Sea Fleet's ground and sea training sites, on the Crimean peninsula and in the Black Sea," the spokesperson said.

The event will test the staffs' ability to organize command and control of forces and the units' ability to execute tasks, the spokesperson said.
