Russian Investigative Committee's Moscow dept opens criminal case on Russian's murder in Abkhazia
MOSCOW. July 12 (Interfax) - The Russian Investigative Committee's department for Moscow will investigate a criminal case on the armed robbery of Russian tourists in Abkhazia.
"The criminal case on the grounds of the murder of Russian citizen Andrei Kabanov in Abkhazia was opened by an order of head of the Russian Investigative Committee's main investigative department for Moscow Alexander Drymanov," the department's spokesperson Yuliya Ivanova told Interfax on Wednesday.
"A series of investigative measures aimed at determining all circumstances and causes of the incident are currently underway," she said.
Kabanov's body with signs of a violent death was found at the estuary of the Aapsta River on July 11, she said. Investigators are aware that the Russian citizen was on vacation with his family.
"Relatives of the victim, possible witnesses, and persons possessing information on the circumstances of the committed crime are being identified," Ivanova said.
As reported, on July 11, two masked attackers armed with firearms and knives have carried out an armed attack on holidaymakers from the city of Moscow in the estuary of the Aapsta River, the Gudauta region. Kabanov, born in 1984, suffered two chest knife wounds in the armed attack. The Russian citizen died of injuries at the Gudauta Central Hospital several hours later.
