Closure of Azerbaijani public organization in Russia not connected to politics - ambassador
BAKU. July 14 (Interfax) - Russian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Vladimir Dorokhin has denied a political background in the issue of revocation of the registration of the All-Russian Azerbaijani Congress.
"This year, there was a problem with the All-Russian Azerbaijani Congress. There are no politics here. People who were responsible for ensuring the relevant legal framework of the Congress did not do their job," Dorokhin said at the conference of public associations of Russians in Azerbaijan held in Baku on Friday.
The incumbent chairman of the All-Russian Azerbaijani Congress made a clear statement on the matter and named those responsible, he said.
"Elementarily, they ignored the Justice Ministry's warnings. The Justice Ministry was offended by that much more than by the violations. They say that if some organization learns that the Justice Ministry has a problem with it, they call us, look for us, try to catch us in the morning at the entrance to the Ministry. They say we will correct everything now. You just be calm," Dorokhin said.
In the situation with the All-Russian Azerbaijani Congress, the Russian Justice Ministry sent three letters to the organization and "there is no a single response." And then, when they started looking into it, I talked with [Azerbaijani Ambassador to Russia] Polad Bulbuloghlu, he said he did not know that the documents of the congress had not been updated since 2001," he said.
The diplomat said the situation with the All-Russian Azerbaijani Congress will be resolved in accordance with Russian legislation.
According to earlier reports, the Russian Supreme Court closed the All-Russian Azerbaijani Congress public organization in May 2017 at the Justice Ministry's demand.
