MiG corporation to start designing replacement of MiG-31 interceptor aircraft

LUKHOVITSY, Moscow region. July 14 (Interfax) - The MiG aircraft corporation plans shortly to start the R&D of a new interceptor aircraft to replace the MiG-31, MiG CEO Ilya Tarasenko said.

"We are proactively developing a concept of a long-range interceptor now. Respectively, we will approach our principal customer with a proposal, and I hope we will start the R&D in the near future," Tarasenko said.

"The MiG-31's life cycle is to near its end within the next decade, and it requires a replacement. Therefore, we are preparing such a replacement in advance," Tarasenko said.
