Russia, Turkey record 9 truce breaches in Syria in past 24 hours

MOSCOW. July 18 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia has registered five ceasefire breaches in Syria in the past 24 hours, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Tuesday.

"The Russian part of the joint Russian-Turkish commission probing breaches of the cessation of hostilities has recorded five instances of gunfire in the Latakia governorate over the past 24 hours," the Defense Ministry said.

"The Turkish part of the commission has registered four violations in the Damascus governorate," it said.

The situation in the de-escalation areas has been stable.

Most instances of random small arms fire were seen in the areas held by the Jabhat al-Nusra and Islamic State (ISIL) terrorist groups (both banned in Russia), it said.

In addition to that, the Russian center for reconciliation of the opposing sides in Syria has carried out three humanitarian missions in the city of Aleppo in the past 24 hours, the Defense Ministry said. Up to 3.6 tonnes of drinking water were distributed among 1,130 local residents during them.

A total of 1,497 humanitarian missions have been conducted.

Russian military doctors have provided medical assistance to 359 people during the humanitarian missions in the past 24 hours.

One humanitarian operation was conducted on the UN behalf. In particular, the Russian air carrier Abakan Air airdropped 21 tonnes of food in the Deir-ez-Zor city area, the Defense Ministry said.

No agreements on joining the cessation of hostilities have been signed with populated localities in Syria over the past 24 hours.

The number of populated localities engaged in the reconciliation process remains unchanged, standing at 2,025, it said

Negotiations on joining the cessation of hostilities continued with armed opposition units in the governorates of Aleppo, Idlib, Damascus, Hama, Homs, and Quneitra.

The number of armed units that have agreed to cease fire still stands at 228, the Russian ministry said.
