Head of NPO Energomash announces biggest supplies of RD-180 and RD-181 engines to U.S. in 2017-2018

ZHUKOVSKY. July 19 (Interfax) - NPO Energomash will supply the greatest number of rocket engines to the United States in 2017-2018, company CEO Igor Arbuzov told reporters.

"Contracts have been signed today through 2019 on the supply of engines to the U.S. The greatest supplies are planned this year and next year, 11 RD-180 engines and four RD-181 engines will be supplied in each year," Arbuzov said.

In 1997, Moscow and Washington signed an agreement worth almost $1 billion for the supply of 101 RD-180 engines. One and a half years ago, the U.S. Congress banned their use beyond 2019, but then lifted the ban when it became clear that the United States could not create its own engines within the next three years. Immediately after that, United Launch Alliance (ULA) ordered another 20 RD-180 engines from NPO Energomash.
