Various Syrian opposition groups now approaching conflict settlement more realistically - Russian diplomat

MOSCOW. July 20 (Interfax) - The different Syrian opposition groups have brought their approaches toward settling the crisis significantly closer to each other and now more realistically assess paths toward its settlement, a Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson said.

"Some analysis indicates that the Riyadh, Cairo, and Moscow opposition groups have brought their approaches noticeably closer together and now assess ways to settle the Syria crisis more realistically," Foreign Ministry information and press department deputy chief Artyom Kozhin said at a news briefing in Moscow.

The seventh round of intra-Syrian negotiations under the UN aegis in Geneva "has shown that some progress has taken shape in the Syria settlement process," he said.

"Contacts between the Syrian parties have brought about progress in two areas, namely in discussing constitutional and legal issues and in consolidating the opposition ranks," he said.
