Some provisions in draft UNSC Resolution on N. Korea unacceptable for Russia - Gatilov
MOSCOW. July 24 (Interfax) - Moscow does not agree with some clauses of the new UN Security Council draft resolution on North Korea, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov said.
"The work is under way. As far as we know, the process of consultations is ongoing. It is not that easy with it [the resolution]. There are several points that require a thorough discussion. There are several points that are unacceptable for us," Gatilov said in response to a question asked by Interfax on Monday.
"This resolution should not seek the economic strangulation of North Korea," Gatilov said.
Gatilov went on to reiterate that Russia's stance on the issue of North Korean nuclear tests remained unchanged.
"As for our attitude toward the launching of missiles and the testing of nuclear weapons, we have always been against and we believe that this is what the resolution of the UN Security Council should be aimed at. However, the current draft [resolution] goes far beyond these goals," Gatilov said.
