Putin, Iraqi vice president discuss economic cooperation, situation in Middle Eastern region

STRELNA. July 25 (Interfax) - Russia and Iraq need to do a lot to further strengthen their economic cooperation, Russian president Vladimir Putin said.

"With regard to our economic cooperation: we have a great deal yet to do, but we also have other areas such as technical-material interaction," Putin said at a meeting with Iraqi Vice President Nouri Al-Maliki on Tuesday.

Russia has been helping Iraq actively, a bilateral intergovernmental commission is operating, Putin said

As for the situation in Iraq and in the Middle East in general, it is complicated, the Russian leader said.

"I would very much like to talk to you about the situation not just in your country and not only about our bilateral relations, but also the situation in the region as a whole," Putin said.
