Georgian money supply falls 3% in H1

TBILISI. July 25 (Interfax) - Broad money supply (M3 aggregate) in Georgia stood at 15.551 billion lari or $6.483 billion at the current exchange rate on July 1, 2017, down 3.1% or 494.4 million lari from the start of the year, the National Bank of Georgia said in a statement.

Money supply increased 2.8% in Q2, including a growth of 1.2% in June. From the end of June 2016 to the end of June 2017, growth in money supply was 16.9%.

National currency in circulation fell 4% to 2.881 billion lari. The volume of reserve money was down 1.5% to 6.238 billion lari.

Foreign currency money supply (M2 aggregate) expanded 6.5% to 6.928 billion lari, and cash outside banks and national currency demand deposits, not including bank and government sector deposits (M1), was up 2.5% to 5.255 billion lari.

Deposits totaled 13.200 billion lari as of July 1, 2017 down 3.4% since the start of the year, including the equivalent of 8.623 billion in foreign currency, down 9.6%, and 4.578 billion lari, up 11%.

Money outside banks (M0) fell 13.7% to 2.351 billion lari.
