Abkhaz parliament ratifies agreement with Russia on operation of joint Interior Ministry information-coordination center
SUKHUM. July 26 (Interfax) - The Abkhaz parliament on Wednesday ratified the agreement between Abkhazia and Russia on procedures governing the formation and operation of the Joint Information-Coordination Center of interior affairs bodies.
Before the voting, Abkhaz Interior Minister Aslan Kobakhiya said the center would conduct actions approved by the parties to combat crime.
Of the 35 parliamentarians who attended the meeting, 23 voted for ratification, nine voted against it and two abstained.
The agreement on the Joint Information-Coordination Center was signed by Abkhaz Interior Minister Aslan Kobakhiya and Russian Deputy Interior Minister Igor Zubov in Sochi in May 2017.
The Joint Information-Coordination Center is being created for coordination of the activities of Abkhazia and Russia on countering organized crime and other dangerous types of crime.
The director of the center and his deputy are appointed for a period of three years by a joint decision made by the interior ministers of Abkhazia and Russia. The center cannot be headed by representatives of the same state and are appointed by each state in turn according to the principle of rotation.
