Officials from Central Asian states, U.S. discuss cooperation in combating terror at Dushanbe meeting
DUSHANBE. July 27 (Interfax) - Representatives of five Central Asian countries and the United States discussed security issues, including the fight against terrorism, at a meeting in Dushanbe.
The National Library of Tajikistan hosted the meeting of the C5+1 Security Working Group attended by officials from Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and the U.S.
The U.S. Embassy in Tajikistan said that the U.S. delegation to the event was led by R. Carl Paschall, Deputy Coordinator for Operations Policy and Military Coordination at the State Department's Bureau of Counterterrorism and Countering Violent Extremism.
"The group discussed regional cooperation in counterterrorism and the threat of foreign terrorist fighters in Central Asia," the embassy said in a report.
C5+1 is a dialogue format and a platform for joint efforts aimed at tackling common problems the U.S. and the five Central Asia states have encountered.
