Saakashvili stripped of Ukrainian citizenship because he gave inaccurate info - Poroshenko's administration
KYIV. July 27 (Interfax) - The decision to terminate the Ukrainian citizenship of former Georgian President and the Odesa region ex-Governor Mikheil Saakashvili was made because Saakashvili had provided inaccurate information when he received Ukrainian citizenship, the administration of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said.
"Acting at the request of the State Migration Service, which presented convincing facts that inaccurate information was submitted when a [citizenship] application form was filled out, the commission for citizenship issues under the auspices of the president of Ukraine decided to back a motion to terminate Mikheil Saakashvili's Ukrainian citizenship and recommended that the president make such a decision," the presidential administration's press service said in response to the relevant question from Interfax.
The Ukrainian president signed a decree stripping Saakashvili of Ukrainian citizenship on the basis of these recommendations, it said.
"This regulatory act will not be published in accordance with the personal data protection law because it includes confidential information, including personal data," it said.
