Moscow regional court names convoy assailants
MOSCOW. Aug 1 (Interfax) - A spokesperson for the Moscow regional court has named the persons who attacked a convoy escorting defendants in the so-called GTA gang case.
"Three attackers were eliminated during the skirmish: [Abdumukim] Mamadchonov, [Mirzomavlon] Mirzosharipov, [and] Kholik Subkhanov," spokeswoman Natalia Osipova told Interfax.
Fazlitdin Khasanov and Zafardzhon Gulyamov were injured and disarmed, she said.
"Four other defendants - Khazratkhon Dodokhonov, Anvar Ulugmuradov, Umar Khasanov and Sherozdzhon Kodirov - were not involved in the attack because they were in the courtroom on forth floor," Osipova said.
The attack took place already after the hearing was adjourned when five defendants were placed into a lift for transportation into the convoy area at the basement of the court, she said.
On Tuesday five defendants in the criminal case against the GTA gang attacked their police convoy inside the Moscow regional court building, and tried to escape.
The GTA gang was set up in 2012, according to the Russian Investigative Committee. It included 14 members, all of them natives of Asian republics. By 2014, the gang had killed 17 people and injured two in Moscow and in the Moscow and Kaluga regions. In rare cases, robbery victims managed to escape after serious beating and threats. Nine members have gone on trial, four others are on international wanted list. The gang leader was killed during attempts to detain him.
The title "GTA gang" first appeared in the media in reference to the well-known computer game Grand Theft Auto.
