Eastern Military District starts up satellite weather complex in Chukchi autonomous district

ANADYR. Aug 2 (Interfax) - The Chukchi autonomous region's first multirole weather information and forecasting complex has been started up at the aviation commandant's office of the Eastern Military District on Cape Schmidt.

"The complex will be operated by weathermen of the Eastern Military District who support aircraft missions in the district's Arctic zone," the district said in a statement.

The complex can receive primary and processed data and satellite images, form databases, and provide weather analysis.

"Hydro-meteorological unit officers will now be able to rapidly collect, map and process various types of weather data," the statement said.
