Far East wildfire area shrinks almost 40 times in past 24 hours

KHABAROVSK. Aug 4 (Interfax) - Fires have destroyed about 430 hectares of the taiga in Russia's Far East in the past 24 hours, compared to 16,500 hectares the day before, the forestry department of the Far Eastern Federal District said in a report.

Forty-four wildfires were seen during the day, mostly in Yakutia. The Khabarovsk territory and Sakhalin also reported wildfires.
