Gazprom, Shell sign agreement to carry out joint study for Baltic LNG

MOSCOW. Aug 8 (Interfax) - LLC Gazprom LNG Saint Petersburg and Shell Gas & Power Development B.V. signed an agreement to carry out a joint pre-feasibility study for the Baltic LNG project.

Seven months have been scheduled to prepare the study.

Gazprom LNG Saint Petersburg said in a statement that the evaluation and selection of the main technical solutions at Baltic LNG will be conducted as part of the study. A schedule framework for the implementation of the project will also be drawn up.

Part of the study will be consideration of the compatibility of Russian and international LNG standards and analysis of possible measures to maximize the participation of Russian contractors in the Baltic LNG project.

Gazprom is planning to launch the high-capacity, 10-15 million tonnes of LNG per year, plant at Ust-Luga on the Baltic coast in 2022-2023. The launch date may be firmed up following the completion of design work.

Gazprom and Shell signed a Joint Study Framework Agreement on the Baltic LNG project during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum in June. The signing of this document will allow the companies to start developing preliminary project documentation as soon as possible, Gazprom said at the time.
