Russia gives 2 An-26 planes to Kyrgyzstan

KANT AIRBASE (Kyrgyzstan). Aug 10 (Interfax) - The Russian Defense Ministry has provided Kyrgyzstan free of charge with two Antonov An-26 military-transport aircraft and ground equipment intended to operate these planes, Russian Deputy Defense Minister Lt. Gen. Alexander Fomin said.

"I am very glad to greet all of you here at the ceremony to hand over another set of military-purpose products delivered by the Defense Ministry of the Russian Federation free of charge as part of military-technical assistance. Today we are transferring two An-26 military-transport airplanes and also the ground equipment needed to operate them," Fomin said during the ceremony to hand over the planes at the Russian Kant airbase in Kyrgyzstan on Thursday.

The airplanes, which will join Kyrgyzstan's fleet today, will help bolster the potential and capabilities of the country's military-transport aviation, he said.

"We have always given and will continue to give close attention to further strengthening our military and military-technical interaction. Our friendly and allied relations act, beyond any doubt, as a foundation of stability and peace in the Central Asia region," he said.
