Russian, Serbian troops destroy mock militant group during exercise

MOSCOW. Aug 10 (Interfax-AVN) - Over 500 Russian and Serbian troops took part in a joint tactical exercise held at the Kirillovsky combined-arms training site in the village of Kamenka, Leningrad region, the Western Military District spokesperson said.

"On the eve of the exercise, over 60 Serbian troops were briefed on security measures. Then they were given uniforms, weapons and military hardware which they were to use throughout the exercise," a statement says.

During the exercise, troops from both countries shared experience and practiced cohesion in task execution in a mock combat environment, in particular in destroying mock illegal armed groups, the spokesperson said.

The troops were using modern and prospective models of small arms, automated control systems for reconnaissance and communications systems, over 30 armored vehicles (BTR-82A, MTLB multipurpose armored tracked vehicles, T-72B3 tanks), and flew over 20 aircraft and helicopter sorties with tactical and army aviation, including Sukhoi Su-34 fighter-bomber, Su-27 fighter, Kamov Ka-52 and Mil Mi-28N attack helicopters and Mi-8 transport helicopter, the spokesperson said.

The motorized-infantry units were supported with artillery brigade kits represented by all types of weapons, from 2B11 light 120 millimeter mortars designed for high angle fire, to self-propelled aritillery howitzers such as 152 millimeter Msta-S.
