Consumers' rights watchdog issues warning about threat to health of tourists in Turkey
MOSCOW. Aug 11 (Interfax) - Rospotrebnadzor consumers' rights watchdog has notified the Russian Federal Agency for Tourism (Rostourism) about the threat to the health of tourists going on holiday to Turkey, the press service of the watchdog says.
"A notification on the safety threat to health was duly sent and received by Rostourism," the report says.
The press service notes that by now Rospotrebnadzor has received over 500 complaints about health problems during holidays at Turkish resorts.
"Sickness cases have been registered at hotels in Side, Alanya, Belek, Kemer, Antalya and others. The greatest number of sickness cases are among children under 14," the report says.
The press service added that the Turkish Health Ministry has still not answered a query from Rospotrebnadzor about the epidemiological situation in that country.
"Rospotrebnadzor will continue efforts to obtain an all-round evaluation of the current situation," the report says.
Earlier a source at Rospotrebnadzor told Interfax that the agency declared unsafe for health the conditions in the area of the Gulf of Antalya over an outburst of Coxsackievirus and coordinated its approach with the Foreign Ministry.
Coxsackievirus is a virus that belongs to the genus Enterovirus. It is transmitted by the fecal-oral route. Medical assitance should be sought after the appearance of the first symptoms of the sickness.
