Kazakh agriculture ministry expects to harvest 19.2 mln tonnes of grain in 2017
ASTANA. Aug 15 (Interfax) - The gross grain harvest is to be 19.2 million tonnes this year, Kazakh agriculture ministry has said.
The grain yield forecast for 2017 in Kazakhstan is an average of 12.6 centners per hectare.
Harvesting is currently in progress in the Almaty, Aktobe, East Kazakhstan, West Kazakhstan, Zhambyl, Kyzylorda and South Kazakhstan regions. As of August 15, 38% of total area sown was harvested, 1.7 million tonnes of grain were threshed. Given its initial weight, the average yield was 20.2 centners per hectare.
This year, total area sown in Kazakhstan was 22.1 million hectares, 651,000 hectares more than last year. Spring sowing areas amounted to 18.7 million hectares.
In 2016, Kazakhstan gathered 23.7 million tonnes of grain in bunker weight or 18.5% more than in 2015.
