Russia, Turkey see 11 ceasefire breaches in Syria in past 24 hours

MOSCOW. Aug 16 (Interfax) - The situation in Syria's de-escalation areas remains stable; the Russian and Turkish military have observed 11 instances of gunfire, mostly in the areas held by terrorists, in the past 24 hours, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a report on Wednesday.

"The situation in de-escalation areas has been stable. Russian members of the joint Russian-Turkish commission investigating ceasefire breaches recorded seven shooting instances during the day in the provinces of Latakia (6) and Aleppo (1)," the ministry said.

Turkish members of the commission observed three breaches in the Damascus province and one in the Idlib province.

"Most cases of random small arms fire were seen in the areas held by fighters of the Jabhat al-Nusra and ISIL terrorist groups (banned in Russia)," the ministry said.
